Do you struggle with…
Judging yourself without mercy?
Over-reacting to changes over which you have no control?
Being super responsible or super irresponsible?
These are common characteristics of Adult Children of Family Dysfunction.
Having trouble eating in healthy amounts?
Focusing on your body image instead of your health?
Turning to food to ease your pain?
Feeling your behavior is abnormal? Do you try to hide it from others?
These are common characteristics of Food Addiction.
Blaming yourself for the addict’s behavior?
Having difficulty identifying what you are feeling?
Blaming the addict’s behavior for every problem in the relationship?
Not asking others to meet your needs or desires?
Giving in to the addict or do you try to control them to make them stop?
These are common characteristics of a codependent.
Lacking nurturing and attention when young?
“Having it all together” façade hiding internal disintegration?
Perceiving attraction, attachment and sex as basic human needs, as with food and
water?
Having an intense need to control self, others, and circumstances?
These are common characteristics of love and relationship addiction.
Do you use sex as an escape?
Being unable to resist sex or sexual images?
Spending time on the internet viewing pornographic websites?
These are common characteristics of sexual addiction.
Poor saving habits?
Compulsive shopping?
An unwillingness to care for and value yourself?
These are common characteristics of financial addiction.
Becoming impatient easily when things do not go according to your plans?
Shutting down any communication when displeased with some one?
Not easily forgetting when someone “does me wrong”?
Acting kindly toward others on the outside, yet feel bitter and frustrated on the
inside?
These are common characteristics of Anger.
Deciding to stop drinking and/or using for a week or so, but it only lasts for a
couple of days?
Switching from one kind of drink or drug to another in the hope that this would keep you from losing control?
Your drinking or using causing trouble at home?
Telling yourself you can stop drinking or using any time you want to, even though
you keep getting inebriated when you don’t mean to?
These are characteristics of Chemical Dependency.
Virtually every person deals with some type of hurt, habit, or hang-up in life. We have been there. We know personally the struggle, heart-ache, agony, fear, and loneliness that come from struggling with an addictive personality.
It is time to step out of your denial and pain and into the freedom you can experience on your Road to Recovery.
